Problem: Water Pump leak at bypass seal (like a fat 'O'ring, crushed between head and pump)

Solution: The obligitary curse at the ******* designer. Then: Measure the gap between the two surfaces when the pump is fitted (my gap was 5 mm minimum). Take a 22mm plumbing olive, the brass ring used for compression fittings. This has a 22mm INTERNAL diameter. Carefully, on a piece of scrap copper pipe, file a roughly equal amount off the width of the ring so that the ring is no wider than the gap measured above. The 'O' ring is 25mm outside diameter, and can be eased into the brass ring. Position the ring/ seal on top of the water pump, ease into position. This works like a charm, the brass ring 'pre-stresses'the 'O' seal, and holds the sides in
